NO NON-CONFORMANCES FOUND IN FORESTRY CERTIFICATION SURVEILLANCE AUDITS (06/07/13)

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The Westervelt Company certifies its forestry practices and wood products supply chain to both Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI®) and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) standards, the first organization in Alabama to achieve this distinction. Annual surveillance audits by independent auditors are required to maintain certification. The 2013 surveillance audits performed in May revealed no non-conformances, validating the rigorous forestry management and fiber procurement practices embraced by the organization.

"Certification is one of the metrics we use to measure our land stewardship mission," said Jim King, Vice President of Natural Resources for The Westervelt Company. "We focus on sustainable forestry management to meet the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."

Responsible sustainable forestry practices on the 431,188 acres the organization manages for Southern Yellow Pine include protection of special sites and biological diversity, reforestation and productive capacity, and long-term forest and soil productivity, among others.

"The ability to label our products with '100% certified-content' further embodies the environmental mission our organization embraces, and meets the demands and expectations of an increasingly aware customer," said Joe Patton, Vice President, Westervelt Lumber. "While we have incorporated environmentally sustainable practices into this business for many years, meeting certification standards brings additional value to our customers and our products."

The organization's next surveillance audits will occur in May, 2014.
