THE WESTERVELT COMPANY RECEIVES AWARD FOR COACHING PROGRAM

Tuscaloosa, Ala. -- The Westervelt Company is one of three companies selected to receive the Georgia Coach Association's 2010 Southeast Prism Award, which recognizes organizations that have enhanced their performance using coaching as a development and leadership strategy. Award recipients will share their stories at the 2010 Southeast Prism Award and Conference on May 5, 2010, at The Loudermilk Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

"It's clear from this year's nominees that coaching yields impressive results," said Prism's Selection Committee Lead, Linda Gartland. "The quality, depth, and support of coaching among this year's nominees are truly impressive and made our choice challenging."

The nomination was made by Vicki Adaway, President of the Alabama Chapter of the International Coaching Federation, who said, "The Westervelt Company's utilization of coaching spoke to the high regard they have for their employees, and their cutting edge ability to stay focused in today's changing marketplace."

Westervelt President & CEO Mike Case is an early-adopter of coaching and introduced the concept to the organization as a result of his positive experience. In addition to using coaching within its high potential leader program, the company offers coaching to all associates as a tool for realizing their full potential.

"One of our organizational values is Learning, and we are committed to providing our associates with ongoing opportunities for personal and professional growth," said Case. "The discovery process and subsequent actions inherent to coaching are sustainable, and increase the dimension of our associate body. Recognition as a 2010 Prism Award winner validates our commitment to this important development tool."

Since the implementation of their coaching initiative, The Westervelt Company has seen significant improvement in the areas of accountability, process ownership, and collaborative decision making, according to Sheila Baker, PCC, Director of Associate Development.

Additional 2010 Southeast Prism Award recipients include Lockheed Martin Corporation (Bethesda, MD with operations in GA) and the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Integrated Systems Networks #6, #7, and #9 (Birmingham, Ala.) with honorable mention to Sunny Delight (Atlanta, GA).

The Prism Award & Conference has a long history of celebrating excellence in all types of organizations - from large public companies to nonprofits to small businesses - who use coaching for leadership and development. Past winners of the Prism Award include The American Cancer Society, Cox Enterprises, Inc., Old Mutual, Marriott Atlanta Marquis, BMW and ADP.
