State and local officials join The Westervelt Company in announcing a major expansion in Clarke County. A new lumber mill will be constructed in Thomasville, Ala., the second sawmill for the 134-year old company based in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

10/16/18: Pinnacle Renewable Holdings Completes Acquisition of 70% Stake in Industrial Wood Pellet Production Facility in Alabama (The Westervelt Company)
Pinnacle Renewable Holdings Inc. today announced that it has closed the previously-announced acquisition of a 70 percent interest in an industrial wood pellet production facility located in Aliceville, Alabama from the Westervelt Company. Westervelt has retained a 30 percent interest in the Aliceville Facility.

Tuscaloosa, Ala. -- August 22, 2018 – The Tuscaloosa Museum of Art, housed at The Westervelt Company headquarters building in Tuscaloosa, will close effective Friday, August 31.

03/30/18: The Westervelt Company Plans to Construct New Lumber Mill (The Westervelt Company)
The Westervelt Company is completing plans for expansion of its lumber manufacturing capacity in south Alabama. The new mill will complement the Company’s flagship lumber facility in Moundville, Ala.

04/05/17: The Westervelt Company Names New President and CEO (The Westervelt Company)
The Westervelt Company is pleased to announce Brian Luoma as President and CEO, effective March 20, 2017. He will assume the role held by Mike Case, who recently announced his retirement after more than 32 years with the company. Brian will assume management and strategic planning responsibility for the land resource organization which includes Westervelt Lumber, Westervelt Renewable Energy, Westervelt Forest Resources, Westervelt Communities, Westervelt Ecological Services and Westervelt New Zealand.

11/18/15: U.S. Wood Pellet Export Market No Threat to U.S. Southern Forests (The Westervelt Company)
The U.S. export of industrial wood pellets to meet renewable energy goals in the European Union is not a threat to the sustainability of U.S. Southern forests, according to a new report by independent forest analysts and economists using U.S. government and marketplace data. The report was commissioned by the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities, National Alliance of Forest Owners (NAFO) and the U.S. Industrial Pellet Association (USIPA).

Grasslands Mitigation Bank (GRMB), an environmental project being developed by Westervelt Ecological Services, has been approved by state and federal natural resource agencies to restore Giant Garter snake (Thamnophis gigas) (GGS) habitat and seasonal wetlands on 281 acres in Merced County, California.
